Pioneers in the Community

Champions of Leadership Program

The Pioneers are invovled in the Champions of Leadership program, a program collaborating leadership with mentorship. This program is designed to link high school athletes with members of our athletic program to help students develop skills and knowledge they need to succeed in life. We believe athletic leadership will be highly significant in helping develop furture leaders in athletic programs at the high school level and in their community. We are challenging those student-athletes who wish to take their drive beyond the playing fields, through workshops, guest speakers, and off-campus opportunities.

Pioneer Rush for Literacy

The Pioneers are involved in the Pioneer Rush for Literacy, a Program collaborating education with physical fitness. It's a chance for our student-athletes to go out and make a difference in the community. Every Pioneer athlete volunteers 20 hours throughout the year at either Washington Elementary (Bay City), Loomis Academy (Saginaw), or Carpenter Elementary (Midland). This program allowed children to have an educational break while still learning literacy and math concepts through exercise. While many of the students are not familiar with Delta College Athletics, that doesn't stop them from being thrilled by the Delta athletes as they lead through exercises in their green and white uniforms.

  Pinconning Boys and Girls Club

A group of Pioneer athletes became coaches for the Pinconning Boys and Girls club to kick off their 2013 season. Our athletes were able to put the kids through some basketball drills teaching them the in and outs of basketball including dribbling, shooting, and passing techniques.

Delta Athletics Gets into the Halloween Spirit

The Delta Athletics program participated in the Delta College Trick for Treat event on October 27th. The players helped collect canned goods, pass out candy as well have fun with the children.

They did a great job and represented our entire athletic department very well," Athletic Director Shelly Raube.

DC5K Run Choose Hope for Cancer Event

Friendly, supportive competitions like the Delta 5k run give people the opportunity to stand up against cancer. This is the fifth year Delta College held this event on campus. Although it was a cold morning it didn't stop runners and walkers from ages 7 - 65 from coming out and competing in the race on Oct. 27th. A group of Pioneer athletes came out to support the event in either set up, during the race handing out water, or cleaning up the event. The day flowed over into the fun games for kids to enjoy while our Lady Pioneers took on Jackson College in their last game of their soccer season. All in all we were able to raise 300 to support the local cancer societies.
