Wright, Henika Ink With Delta Baseball
Both lefty pitchers choose DC to continue baseball careers
Owendale, MI – The Delta College baseball team is proud to announce the signing of Jacob Wright to a National Letter of Intent to play baseball for the Pioneers for the 2016-2017 season. Jake is a left-handed pitcher out of Owendale Gagetown high school.
"Jake was a player that we put on our radar four years ago and in that time he has only gotten better," said head coach Danny Smith. "He's an impact player for us and together with Guy (Henika) gives us two solid left-handed arms in the rotation for next season."
Guy Henika, a senior at Essexville Garber, recently committed to play for the Pioneers as well.
Wright is a three-sport star at Owendale where he recently led the football team to a perfect 9-0 season as the starting quarterback and inside linebacker. In basketball, he is on the verge of a 1000 point career.
"It's good to know I have a place to play and on an exceptional team," said Wright. "I like Coach Smith and the program speaks for itself. I can't wait to get on campus."
Delta has had three straight 30-win seasons while qualifying for the post-season in each of the last three years. The Pioneers have been ranked in the top 20 in the country in three of the past four years as well. They open their 2016 on March 4th in Kentucky versus Union College.
