Midland, MI – The Delta baseball team played their third consecutive double header on Monday, defeating Northwood 6-3 in the first game before falling 10-1 in the nightcap. The Pioneers now stand at 12-13 overall on the season.
Delta got on the board first in game one as Brady Marwede singled and eventually came around to score on a Watson Moore single to make it 1-0 in the top of the first. The Timberwolves answered right back, however, plating three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 3-1 lead.
The score would remain that way until the third inning when DC scored four runs on just one hit but was aided by two walks and two hit batters. Another run in the top of the fourth made it 6-3 and was more than enough run support for winning pitcher Lewis Finch. Caleb Smith threw the seventh inning for his first collegiate save.
Offensively, Delta was led by Luke Schrage who collected three hits in the contest followed by Marwede and Moore who each picked up two hits of their own.
Game two saw a 3-0 Northwood lead after three innings balloon in to a 9-0 lead when they scored six runs in the fourth inning en route to a 10-1 victory. Chase Beyersdorf was tagged with the loss on the hill for Delta while Drew Harding and Justin Heinlein each collected two hits.
The Pioneers host MCCAA foe St Clair County tomorrow at Wickes Park. Game time is scheduled for 2pm.
