Fort Wayne, IN – The Delta College baseball team traveled to Fort Wayne on Sunday to play Ivy Tech Community College, dropping both ends of double-header 11-1 and 22-13. The sweep drops DC's record to 5-8 on the season.
In less than ideal conditions, neither team played quality baseball on the day as the snow and sleet made it difficult for either squad to do much. Game one was tied at 1-1 going in to the bottom of the fifth when Ivy Tech scored seven runs on two hits, four walks and two hit batters. Meanwhile, the Pioneer offense was limited to just two hits in the game, a double by Carson Longstreth and an RBI double by Lucas Sella. Andy Sills was tagged with the loss on the hill to even his record at 1-1 on the season.
Game two saw a blowout turn in to a close game only to end in a blowout. Down 9-2 in the fourth, Delta scored five runs highlighted by Braeden Lamberg's three run homerun to right field to make it 9-7. After Ivy Tech scored three in the bottom of the frame, Delta came roaring back to tie the game at 12-12 in the top of the fifth. Four singles and two walks plated five runs as Nolan Raymond, Cam Fowler, Kyle Belger and Drew long all contributed singles.
Ivy Tech would take the lead for good in the bottom of the inning, however, scoring five runs (two earned) and then running away with the contest after scoring five more in the sixth. Alex Snider took the loss on the bump for DC to lower his record to 1-2 on the season. In all, Delta walked 23 batters and hit another nine as the conditions worsened throughout the day making it nearly impossible to control the ball.
Offensively, Delta was led in game two by Drew Long's three hits and three runs as well as Lamberg's two hits and four RBI. Delta will next face off with Northwood University on Tuesday followed by the opening games of MCCAA play at Schoolcraft on Friday.
