Wickes Park - The Delta baseball team completed a brutal, ten-games-in-five-days stretch on Saturday, dropping both games of the double header to visiting Lansing by the scores of 16-4 and 11-7. On Friday, they lost both games in Lansing, 16-5 (five innings) and 18-13. Their record on the season now stands at 10-14 in the MCCAA East and 20-23-1 overall.
In game one on Saturday, Alex Snider threw five innings giving up seven runs on seven hits to take the loss. His record drops to 2-5 on the year. Delta committed five errors in the game leading to 10 unearned runs. Game two saw the JOEs battle in a back and forth affair as Lansing led 3-1 after two innings and 7-3 after three before Delta made it a 9-6 game heading in to the seventh. With the score 11-6, the Pioneers scored a run and had the bases loaded before the game ended. Jackson Lund took the loss on the hill to drop his record to 2-3 on the year. Offensivley, Delta was led by Drew Long, Matt Fisher and Nick Johnson with two hits apiece.
On Friday, Lansing jumped out to a 12-0 lead after two innings and never looked back in a 16-5 mercy shortened contest. Jack Rossbach (1-2) took the loss on the hill while Cam Fowler led the offense with three hits in three at-bats. Matt Fisher also picked up two hits while Andrew Gauthier added a double.
Delta was down 13-0 after three innings in game two before storming back with eight runs in the fourth inning. Lansing scored another four innings to make it 17-8 game after four but a three-spot by DC in the fifth and two more in the sixth made it 17-13. The JOEs would get no closer though, losing 18-13. Jake Wright (0-2) took the loss on the hill, throwing the first two innings while Jake Glover threw the final four. Matt Fisher was 3-for-5 while Carson Longstreth hit a grand slam homerun to go along with three walks. Drew Long went four-for-four with two doubles and Braeden Lamberg added a single and double.
The Pioneers will play host to Lorain Community College on Monday in hopes of gaining at least a split in a scheduled double header in order to secure the No. 1 seed in the Region XII tournament. They are currently tied with Schoolcraft in the regional rankings but hold the tie breaker should they end up with the same record. The Region XII tournament will be held May 7th-9th at Sports Force Park in Sandusky, Ohio. The winner of the double-elimination tournament will be crowned Region XII champs and will head to the Super Regional to face off with the winner of the Region IV champion on May 18th-19th with a trip to the NJCAA World Series awaiting the winner.
