Standish, MI – The Delta College baseball team celebrated Sophomore day on Saturday, hosting MCCAA East foe St. Clair County and splitting the first two games of the series, winning game one 7-3 before dropping the nightcap, 6-3. The split give the Pioneers a 21-24 overall record on the season while they stand at 11-15 in conference play.
Game one saw the JOEs down 3-1 heading in to the bottom of the sixth before they exploded for six runs to open the game up and win, 7-3. Andrew Gauthier got the offense started in the sixth with a leadoff single before Cam Fowler blasted a double to straight away center field to put runners at second and third with no outs. Matt Fisher then drew a walk and Nick Johnson doubled to score all three runs.
Johnson then scored on a bases loaded walk before a Jackson Lund RBI single made it 5-3 and a misplayed ball in left field scored two more for the final tally. Seven different Pioneers had hits in the game while Carson Longstreth added a double, two stolen bases and a run.
Drew Schultz started the game and threw the first five innings in taking his fifth no-decision on the year. Alex Dingee (5-2) picked up the win in relief, throwing two innings and giving up no runs while striking out one.
