Game 1
St. Clair County Community College
Port Huron, MI – Delta Baseball continued it's winning ways on Sunday, sweeping a double-header from the St. Clair County Community College baseball squad by the scores of 6-0 and 13-5. The wins raise their overall record to 23-24 on the season while they finish with a conference record of 13-15. It's just the third conference losing record in eight years of existence for Delta, having gone 12-14 in 2012 and 11-17 last season.
Game one saw Delta's Jackson Lund throw brilliantly as the freshman pitched a complete game, 6-0 shutout while throwing just 69 pitches through seven innings. He gave up just five hits and struck out three to even his record at 3-3 on the season. Delta opened up the scoring in the third inning as Cam Floyd led off with a single and scored on a Cam Fowler RBI to make it 1-0. Andrew Gauthier walked and scored on a Matt Fisher while Fowler would eventually come around to score on a wild pitch.
In the top of the sixth, Carson Longstreth and Nolan Raymond each singled and moved up a base on a Lund sacrifice bunt. They would both score on a Cam Floyd double-suicide squeeze while Gauthier would score in the seven to finish off the final tally.
Fowler and Raymond each had two hits to lead the offense.
In game two, Delta was clinging to a 4-3 lead before scoring eight runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. The Pioneers were aided by six walks and a hit batter in the inning while Lund and Longstreth each added RBI singles. Longstreth collected the win on the hill for DC, giving up three runs on six hits to improve to 3-1 on the year. Nick Johnson led the offense with two hits, two walks and two runs.
Delta will finish their Region XII games tomorrow as they travel to Cleveland, Ohio to play Lorain County Community College in their final two games of the regular season. Should Delta win one of the two games, they will clinch the #1 seed for the Region XII tournament which starts on Tuesday.
