Des Plaines, Illinois – A nice post-season run with great comebacks and tight games came to a disappointing ending on Sunday as Delta dropped a 25-1 decision to defending national champion Oakton Community College in the final game of the best-of-three Super Regional. The Pioneers finish the season with a 29-26-1 overall record while Oakton improves to 41-16.
The Owls scored six runs in the first inning and four runs in the second to take an overwhelming 10-0 lead. They were assisted with five walks, one error and a hit batter.
Jake Wright took the loss for Delta and Cam Fowler led the offense with two hits and an RBI.
Oakton advances to the College World Series for the second season in a row where they will face off with second ranked Herkimer County Community College (35-4) from upstate New York. The Owls will be five seed in the eight team, double-elimination series.
