University Center, MI--- Pioneers showed great team work by producing a season high 28 assist on their way to a 98-76 victory over visiting Henry Ford College.
The game started off slow for the Pioneers as they were down 8-2 in the early moments of the game, which was the cause of lack of intensity and missed shots. Once the intensity turned up the Pioneers began to roll sparked by a deep three pointer by Jaylen Randle (Flint Carman-Ainsworth/Flint, MI) which had 15 points on the night. Although their shots were falling the Pioneers man to man defense became stifling and shut down the paint causing turnovers. Henry Ford made some tough shots to bring the lead down to single digits but the shooting of Davian Phillips 14 points, 2 assist (Kalamazoo Loy Norrix/Kalamazoo, MI) and Benjamin Batts 19 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds (Arthur Hill/Saginaw, MI) sustain the lead going into the half with a 54-39 lead.
Henry Ford would not go away even after being down by 15 points; Daton Aaron of Henry Ford kept the Hawks in the game with 21 point half.
The second half started in similar fashion as the game did with Daton Aaron putting Henry Ford on his back and trying to fight back to get in the game, but the Pioneers intensity on defense increased which lead to great plays for their offense. The aggressiveness of Julian Henderson 25 points,8 rebounds 4 assist and 3 steals (Saginaw/Saginaw, MI) on both ends lead to the Pioneers building their lead to 20 plus points. The Pioneers controlled the ball game by applying full court pressure which led to some easy baskets in transition. The Pioneers cruised to a hard fought 98-76 victory while shooting
The Pioneers had 28 total team assist, which were led by Markell Bradshaw's (Saginaw/Saginaw, MI) career high 13 assist with 6 points on the night. The Pioneers shot 60% from 2 and 40% from 3 while shooting 75% from the free throw line.
The Pioneers will take on two top 15 teams in their next two games. Pioneers will face #11 Mott Community College on Saturday January 24th, 2015 in Flint, MI at 3:00pm.
