Alpena, MI------ The Pioneers won their third consecutive game 86-66 over Alpena Community College. The Pioneers were led by the hot shooting from Benjamin Batts (Arthur Hill/Saginaw, MI) who finished the night with 23 points and 3 assist.
The Pioneers came into the game riding a 2 game winning streak and looking to put together a complete game. The Pioneers came close to a complete game with the hot shooting of Travon Cotton as well which missed only one shot on the night. From start to finish the Pioneers offense was smooth and aggressive getting key contributions from Jaylen Randle (Flint Carman-Ainsworth/Flint, MI) and Justin Person (Flint Carman-Ainsworth/Flint, MI) who both ran the offense with a steady pace that produced great scoring opportunities for the Pioneers.
Although the crowd was impressed by the offensive display by the Pioneers, it was their defense that sparked the offensive execution. The pressure and relentless half court defense lead to quick scoring opportunities in transition. The consistent ball pressure applied by Person and Randle on the ball lead to great weak side steals by Julian Henderson (Saginaw/Saginaw, MI) and Travon Cotton (Heritage/Saginaw, MI).
"Defensively I believe we grown a lot in this game tonight with our effort and execution of the game plan. I believe we are starting to appreciative of the small things it takes to be a fundamentally sound basketball team" – Coach Carlos McMath.
On the night the Pioneers had four guys score in double digits; Batts 23pts, Cotton 18 pts, Randle 15 pts, and Person 11pts; on the evening.
The Pioneers will travel to Wayne County Community College on Wednesday February, 11th at 7:30pm.
