Pioneers Squeak Out Ninth Conference Win
Dearborn, MI-----Julian Henderson’s (Saginaw/Saginaw,MI) Double-Double 15 points, and 10 rebounds helped the Pioneers worked hard for their ninth conference win of the season with a 74-68 win over Henry Ford Community College.

The Pioneers opened the game off sluggish on the offense end but held Henry Ford to 6 points in the first 8 minutes of the game. The defense was there early for The Pioneers and which lead them to a lead and controlled the pace of the game. Henry Ford made some tough contested shots in the first half of the game to keep them in it. Late turnovers by the Pioneers led to easy baskets for Henry Ford, but the Pioneers still went into the half with a 33-28 lead.
In the Second half the Pioneers offense came alive which lead to great opportunities in the paint which allowed them to get to the Free throw line. Pioneers took control of the game at the 5 minute mark and believed that they could run away with the game, but Henry Ford would not go away. Henry ford would go on to make deep threes to keep the game close but the free throw shooting of the Pioneers closed the game out with a 74-68.
"The second half we were very different team due to us being more aggressive and we had more ball movement to get all involved. In the first half we only had 4 free throws attempted, but in the second half we had 25 alone." Coach Carlos McMath.
The Pioneers were led by the scoring of Benjamin Batts (Arthur Hill/Saginaw, MI) 23 points. The Pioneers bench came up big with the production of Donte Jackson (Livonia Churchill/Detroit, MI) and Justin Person (Flint Carman-Ainsworth/Flint, MI ). Chris Chrzan (Ida/ Monroe, MI) played big for the Pioneers by controlling the glass, grabbing 7 rebounds.
The Pioneers will host Mott CC for their last regular season home game this coming Saturday the 21st, at 8pm. Delta defeated Mott 59-55 back on January, 24th, in a back and forth contest. With a win the Pioneers would clinch a 3 seed in the upcoming MCCAA tournament which starts on March 3rd.
