University Center, MI------- Allante Wheeler (6'5, Wing) has signed to attend Defiance College located in Defiance, Ohio.
The Canton native was the first player to commit to the Pioneers for the 2015 Class. The coaching staff, led at the time by Assistant Coach McMath, saw Wheeler at Steven Bell's Camp and fell in love with his abilities.
Wheeler was a tall, lanky athlete who was a good basketball player with a ton of potential but who was an even better high jumper at 6'5 -- an all-around talented athlete who was coachable and competitive during the camp.
"Allante is one of the well-rounded and charismatic young man I have ever met. He is one of those players that is nowhere near his true potential as a basketball player yet", said Coach McMath. "I truly believe that his impact on his new campus will be just as great as his impact on the court where he will be great."
Wheeler was a two-year team captain who led by example and worked extremely hard to be effective as much off the court as on the court. While at Delta, Wheeler was a part of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee as well as Men of Delta (a men's leadership program at Delta College).
When asked why Allante chose Delta, he replied "I picked Delta because I had faith in the coaches, good chance to live away from home and get some experience on my own and I knew juco [junior college] would prepared me for a higher level."
Wheeler will be obtaining his goal of playing at a higher level at Defiance College. "[I] chose Defiance because it's a winning program, coaches wanted me to come in to be a leader and main guy right away, small campus, out of state and they will put me where I need to be when I graduate."
One thing is clear - the sky is the limit for Allante.
