Injuries have played a role in the outcomes of some early season games for Delta, but this one can't be pinned on anything but missed chances. 11 missed free throws, 25 turnovers and surrendering 8 offensive rebounds in the second half alone, caused the downfall of the Lady Pioneers.
"I'm very proud of how hard our ladies played and competed," Head Coach Shonda Long said after the loss. "But when you play good defense for 27 seconds and get a team to shoot an out of rhythm shot with three seconds left on the shot clock, we have to come up with that rebound and finish the possession."
Sophomore Harmany Williams led the team in scoring with 19 points and also added six rebounds and three assists and Freshman Rylee Pankow produced a double double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Delta will look to rebound from this performance against the Oakland Community College Raiders, a team in which the Lady Pioneers swept a season ago.
