Second Half Surge Propels Schoolcraft Past Delta
Schoolcraft outscores Delta by 11 in the second half to collect the conference victory.
Coming into the game, Delta had started to gain some momentum on the season winning two straight games. On this night, a slow start for the Lady Pioneers would allow Schoolcraft to jump out to a 5 point lead after the first quarter. The second quarter resulted in Delta outscoring Schoolcraft 22-11, setting the tone by being aggressive on defense and forcing turnovers.
The second half was another slow start for the Lady Pioneers, one that they unfortunately could not overcome. Late in the fourth quarter, Delta did a great job of executing on the offensive end and getting big buckets to close the gap on the Ocelots, including 14 big bench points from Alexis Sanch, but they couldn't get the big stop that they needed on the defensive end, and ended up losing 66-60.
"I'm very proud of how we executed our special situation plays the last minute of the game," Coach Shonda Long said after the loss. "Alexis Sanch did a great job coming off the bench ending with 14 pts as well as Shallon Grawely with 8pts 10rebs and 2 blocks. Now we have to have a short memory and get back at it to prepare for St. Clair on Wedensday."
Their next game is on January 24 against St. Clair County at home at the Pioneer Gym. A season ago, the Lady Pioneers swept both of their meetings against St. Clair.
