Solid Defense Leads Delta to the Season Split with Wayne
Fueled by solid defense, Harmany Williams explodes for 27 points in the Delta victory.
In the previous matchup with Wayne this season, Delta lost a tough fought game 80-70 and came into this game with a chip on their shoulders, trying to avenge their performance. Delta had 25 turnovers, and missed 11 free throws in the first game and looked to improve on those numbers to secure the victory this time around.
" Our plan was to force Wayne County into shooting 3's and limit paint touches," Coach Long said about the gameplan heading into the game.
In the first half, Delta used their defensive dominance to jump out to a 29-23 lead at the break. The third quarter is when Delta flexed their msucle, outscoring Wayne 22-10 and leading 51-33 after 3Q. Harmany Williams led the way in the victory with 27 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists. Marisa Morton chipped in a solid 13 points and Kyla Breckenridge added eight.
"With the second half of conference starting this week, I emphasized to our girls that we can still finish top three in our conference with seven games remaining," Long added. "Every game we lost in conference, except for one, we lost by 10 or less."
Delta looks to continue this roll in their next game against OCC.
