Delta Women Soccer Players Recieve Post Season Awards
University Center-- Five Delta soccer players receive conference and regional awards.
The 2013 Women's Soccer season ended with a loss in the Semifinals at Owens Community College in the Region XII District Championships. Even though the team was disappointed in how they finished, it was another great year for the Lady Pioneers.
DruAnne Brogren was one of out captains, and first year player that brought in a huge amount of experience agter being with the team last year. She is a strong player that plays with a lot of intensity. She is capable of commanding the ball individually and collectively with the other midfielders. She had a very strong year, that caught the attention of all the opposing coaches. She earned NJCAA Regiona XII 1st Team, MCCAA All-Conference 1st Team, and MCCAA All-Freshman Team honors.
Tara Blundell was a first year player that brought in valuable travel soccer experience, and had a stellar High School career. She is a fast forward that plays with a lot of quickness and intensity. She led the team in scoring and total points this fall with 9 goals and 20 points. Her defensive play was equslly as strong as her offensive play. She had a huge impact on the success of our team this yera. She earned NJCAA Regiona XII 2nd Team, MCCAA All-Conference honorable Mention and MCCAA All-Freshman Team Honors.
Kalyan Green was a returning player that is extremely fast and athletic. She is capable of playing any field position. She is an extremely strong defendedr, however we used for much of the season as a forward becuase of her speed and quickness. Kay had 7 goals and 2 assists for 16 points. She earned NJCAA Regiona XII 2nd Team and MCCAA All-Conference 1st Team Honors.
Megan Helpap was another one of our Captains and a returning player with valuable college experience. She played the Center Mid position which is very important and difficult. She is a great distributor, and she led the team in assists with 6. She earned NJCAA Region XII All-Tournament Team and MCCAA All-Conference Honorable Mention honors.
Destiny Wallace was ourkeeper, and first year player that brough a tremendous amount of athleticism to that postion. With the help of her defensive group in fron of her, she recorded 9 shutouts (new team record) and had an impressive save percentage of 89% (new team record). She earned NJCAA Region XII All-Tournament Team and MCCAA All-Conference Honorable Mention honors.
Delta College is proud of their success and will be looking for all returning Freshman to make a big impact next year.
