Jackson, MI - The Delta College women's soccer team lost its second consecutive game on Friday, losing a tough 1-0 decision at Jackson Community College. The loss drops the Pioneer record on the season to 2-2 overall and in the MCCAA. Jackson improves to 2-1 in the conference and 3-1 on the season.
Delta had numerous chances in the first half as they outshot the Jets 12-8 with four shots on goal but couldn't get on the board as the game remained tied at the half, 0-0. Jackson took advantage of a strong push at the beginning of the second half to get an excellent offensive drive that yielded a goal in the 48th minute off the foot of Bailey Malthaner to make it 1-0.
The Pioneers continued to win the majority of the 50/50 balls and did an outstanding job of possessing the ball through the midfield but couldn't score in the second half to drop the 1-0 final.
"I was pleased with our effort," said head coach Paul Stenglein. "It was disappointing to play this well and not come away with the win. "
"Give Jackson credit, though, they played a very strategic game."
Delta outshot the Jets, 24-16 overall and doubled them up with shots on goal, 14-7. Ali Bourcier had six saves in goal for the Pioneers.
Delta next plays a home game on Tuesday against the Panthers of Davenport University. Game time is 4:00pm.
