Delta Scores Early, Cruises to get Back on Their Winning Ways
Scoring twice in the first two minutes, Delta uses the early surge to roll to victory.
For the first time this year, the Lady Pioneers were heading in a contest coming off a loss and they did not like that feeling. 50 seconds into the game Sophomore Paige Renshaw gathered a nice cross from Nicole Hill after it had deflected off two members of the Wolverines, to score the first goal of the game less than a minute in. The second goal came almost immediately thereafter, when Madison Tweddle sent a beautiful through ball to Skylar Eckert who beat the keeper giving Delta a 2-0 lead. The fast start is exactly what they needed after the tough game against Schoolcraft. Later in the half, the Tweddle-Eckert combination struck for gold again in almost the exact same fashion. Tweddle sent a long pass past the last line of defenders to Eckert, who this time beat the Goalie high instead of low, giving Delta a 3-0 lead, which they would carry into the halftime break.
The University of Michigan at Dearborn Goal-Keeper did a nice job yesterday keeping her team in the game as she recorded 10 saves, and successfully defended off all 6-corner kick opportunities. On the other side, it was yet another combined shutout for Kalyn Breckenridge and Hannah Bauer for the Lady Pioneers, each playing for one-half.
The second half of the game featured the official giving five yellow cards, including two of which to the same player for the Wolverines, resulting in a red. Despite the increased attention to the physical play, Delta managed to add another goal to the board when Elena Lippert sent a beautiful shot past the goalie to the far post for the fourth and final goal as Delta went on to win by a final score of 4-0.
Up next for the Lady Pioneers is a home rematch against the Jets of Jackson College. Last time out, Delta defeated Jackson 1-0 so it is sure to be an entertaining game.
