Delta Wins the NJCAA Region 12 Championship with a 6-0 Game over Cincinnati State
Delta starts fast and secures a spot in regionals this weekend in New Jersey
It was Sophomore night at Delta College as after the game, all of the players playing in their final home game, were honored on the field.
The game started out with Cincinnati State getting a solid full field run against the Delta defense resulting in a shot wide of the net. This served as a wakeup call for the Lady Pioneers and they came out firing after that.
Nicole Hill sent a great ball into the box from the corner and Madison Tweddle collected it and sent it into the net giving Delta the early lead. Hill was not done setting up her teammates as she sent another great through ball into the box where Paige Renshaw was there to score the goal extending the lead to two.
A flurry of goals for Delta came before the half starting when Renshaw sent a great long pass to Skylar Eckert who beat everyone on the field in a race for the ball, getting a one on one opportunity with the goalie and not missing, connecting on her fourteenth goal of the year. Thirty seconds later it was Tweddle getting her second goal of the afternoon after collecting a centering pass from Taylor Farrand giving Delta a 4-0 halftime advantage.
The second half featured another quick start as within the first minute, Farrand scored after receiving a short centering pass from Eckert.
It was another shutout performance for Kalyn Breckenridge, adding to her impressive save percentage on the season.
The final goal of the game came courtesy of Lindsey Musser after Piper Wood lofted a ball into the box and Musser shot it into the corner for the goal.
On Saturday Delta will travel to New Jersey to take on Middlesex County College in the start of postseason play.
