Delta College Women's Soccer Finish the 2023 Campaign as the NJCAA Division III National Runner-Up
University Center, MI - Delta College traveled to Gastonia North Carolina to participate in the NJCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship. Delta College Pioneers had a very successful quarterfinal game against Ocean County College from New Jersey. The Pioneers out scored their opponent 8-0 with Anna Sabo scoring two goals and having two assists. Their next opponent was Suffolk College out of Long Island New York. Delta was able to wear down Suffolk in the second half. With two goals by Rhianna Schermerhorn, and a 3-0 win Delta earned a trip to the Championship game. The Pioneers would face 2x defending National Champions Brookhaven from Dallas Texas. Over the past five seasons, the National Champions have either been Brookhaven or Delta. Both teams had limited scoring opportunities in the Championship game. Delta had two excellent scoring chances that were denied by Brookhaven, and then the Bears would put in the game winning goal before the end of the first half. Brookhaven's strategy of denying quality shots in their defensive third, helped them secure a 1-0 victory in the Championship game. Both teams played very well, and both had excellent seasons. The coaching staff could not be more proud of how the young ladies represented their school, community and program during this hard fought tournament. Delta finished the season 23-1 and this team broke numerous team records. The team will take this experience to start building another championship level team for next fall.
