Jayhawks Top Delta College 4-2
The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks defeated Delta College 4-2 on Wednesday behind solid pitching and timely hitting.
Carter Hughes got the Jayhawks on the board in the bottom of the third with a single down the right field line, tying the game at 1-1. Muskegon took the lead an inning later when Brock Thornton delivered an RBI single to make it 2-1.
After Delta tied it in the top of the sixth, Hughes came through again in the bottom half with an RBI single to put the Jayhawks back in front. Aidan Buchberger followed with a fielder's choice that brought in another run, extending the lead to 4-2.
Nick Wilson got the start on the mound and turned in a strong performance. The right-hander went seven innings, allowing seven hits and two runs (one earned), while striking out eight and issuing no walks.
Hughes, batting eighth, led the offense with a 2-for-3 day and two RBIs. The Jayhawks stayed aggressive on the base paths, swiping three bags, and played sharp defense, turning two double plays in the win.
Jayhawks Complete Sweep with 4-1 Win Over Delta College
Muskegon Community College wrapped up a doubleheader sweep of Delta College with a 4-1 victory in Game 2.
The Jayhawks broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth when Bryce Luevano drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
Starting pitcher Sean Shooltz was dominant on the mound, earning the win with a complete-game effort. The right-hander allowed just two hits and one run over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.
Offensively, Dayton Thomas, Aidan Buchberger, Christian Kennedy, and Lawson Doyle each recorded a hit for Muskegon. Luevano, Brett Hunter, and Ryne Christensen all chipped in with an RBI.
The Jayhawks stayed aggressive on the bases, swiping three bags—including two by Thomas—and turned one double play on defense.
