Winter Haven, FL – The Delta College baseball team dropped a pair of game to eleventh ranked Lincoln Land Community College on Sunday, losing game one 10-3 and game two, 11-10. The pair of losses drops Delta's record to 2-4.
Matt Sahr (0-1) took the loss in game one, throwing four innings and giving up five earned runs on six hits while walking five, hitting one and striking out three. Lincoln Land took a 4-0 lead before DC scored two in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit in half. In the top of the fifth, however, the Loggers tacked on five more to go up 9-2.
Game two saw the Pioneers jump out to a 6-0 lead after three innings before giving up six runs in a disastrous third inning when Lincoln Land reeled off six hits to tie the game. Delta answered with four more runs to go up 10-6 before the Loggers once again tied the game by plating four of their own in the bottom of the fourth.
With the score tied at 10-10 and two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Lincoln Land scored on a double-steal from third base to take an 11-10 into the final inning where Delta was unable to score.
Austin Dingee started on the hill for Delta, throwing four innings before giving way to Jake Gross. Gross threw the final two innings, giving up one earned run on two hits and striking out two. In taking the loss, his record falls to 0-1 on the year.
Delta has an off day on Monday before playing Beloit College in a double-header on Tuesday.
