Early in the Florida trip it was a struggle for the Lady Pioneers to get into the win column, but that is no longer the case. Winners of five of their last six contests, Delta came into the Conference doubleheader confident they could continue their winning ways, and excited, as it was the first time they hosted a game in the 2018 season.
In game one, Kaylee Cypher was dominant on the mound scattering seven hits over her seven shutout innings to record the victory. Offensively solo home runs from Kalen Tchorzynski and Kayla Gauthier proved to be enough, as Delta took game one 3-0.
In the nightcap, Delta fell early to St. Clair, trailing 5-0 after four innings. In the fifth, Delta scored six runs to take their first lead of the game. Cypher came into the game as a pinch hitter and cleared the bases with a line drive to the wall in right. Carley Starnes, Makenna Smith and Emilee Robart each drove in runs to give Delta the lead. After tying it in the 6th, Delta added one to regain the lead, going on to win the second game 7-6 completing the sweep. Alexandria Appold earned the win on the mound for Delta pitching the final 3.2 innings in relief while only giving up one earned run.
Up next for Delta, they travel to take on Schoolcraft, a team in which they won three out of four meetings with them last season.
