Women of Delta Defeat Wayne County CC
Win improves conference record to 2-1
Detroit, MI – The Delta College women's basketball team won their second consecutive conference game on Saturday, defeating the Wayne County squad 58-43 to improve to 2-1 in the conference and 9-6 overall.
"It feels good to go on the road and win," said head coach Kelly Miller. "We've had good practices and it's starting to show."
Delta took a commanding first half lead, limiting the Wild Cats to just 17 first half points and building a 15 point lead. The second half didn't get much better for Wayne as they tallied just 26 points over the final two quarters.
"Today we showed a lot of positives," said Miller. "Girls that haven't been getting a lot of time are stepping into larger roles and are beginning to look pretty solid."
"We've talked about how difficult conference play is and our hard work from the preseason games is showing."
Jayde Abenth led the offense with 14 points and 8 boards while Lauren Rogers (10 pts, 10 rebounds) and Shallon Graywey (6 pts, 10 rebounds) contributed to the win as well.
Delta next hosts the Raiders of Oakland Community College on Wednesday night. Oakland brings a record of 2-1 in the conference and 7-6 overall.
"Getting back to school and getting back to regular schedules will be very beneficial to our girls," said Miller. Delta has been on semester break since the middle of December.
The teams finished with identical 11-5 conference records last year and split the season series at one game apiece. Tipoff is scheduled at 5:30pm.
