Delta College Women’s Basketball Team Dominates in Electrifying Home Opener
Delta College's women's basketball team made an emphatic statement in their first home game of the season, cruising to an 83-point victory fueled by a commanding team performance.
"This week, we made several key adjustments that paid off with a big win. Changes to the starting lineup, updates to our pregame warm-up routine, and tweaks to our practice approach all came together to elevate our performance on the court" says coach Jason Brown.
Leading the charge was forward Hailee Jefferson, who put on a scoring clinic with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting, complemented by six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Jefferson's ability to dominate in the paint set the tone early for the Pioneers, who shot an impressive 55.2% from the field as a team.
Delta's reserves proved just as lethal, with Amari'A Campbell and Kayla Howell combining for 21 points off the bench. Campbell was particularly efficient, hitting 5-of-7 from the field and contributing four rebounds in her 19 minutes of play.
On the defensive side, the Pioneers' hustle and awareness were evident, forcing 12 turnovers and recording six steals. Guard Carah McCrum provided a spark in limited minutes, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor and adding a pair of blocks, further underscoring the team's commitment to a full-court effort.
Delta's balanced attack also highlighted their unselfish play, with 11 assists spread across the roster. Guards Ja'Leeah Griggs and Ivy Woods orchestrated the offense effectively, combining for four assists and ensuring smooth ball movement throughout the game.
Despite the strong showing, the team recognizes areas for growth, particularly in their three-point shooting (2-for-11) and free-throw efficiency (63%). However, their dominance on the boards, with a 33-27 rebounding advantage, gave them plenty of second-chance opportunities to counter those shortcomings.
The Pioneers are already looking ahead to their next matchup, determined to build on their early-season momentum. With Jefferson and the rest of the squad firing on all cylinders, Delta College has set a high bar for what could be a thrilling season ahead.
