Delta College Women’s Basketball Falls Short Against Muskegon Community College
In a hard-fought battle, the Delta College women's basketball team came up just short against Muskegon Community College, falling 64-58 on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at BRG.
Delta came out strong in the first quarter, building a 19-12 lead, but struggled offensively in the second, scoring just seven points. Muskegon capitalized, evening the game at halftime with a 14-point quarter of their own. Both teams matched each other in the third quarter, but Muskegon pulled away in the fourth with a strong 21-point performance to secure the win.
Key Performances
Carah McCrum led Delta with 16 points, including four three-pointers, while adding four rebounds and six blocks. Kayla Howell contributed 12 points, hitting three shots from beyond the arc. Hailee Jefferson made an impact inside, recording a double-double with seven points and 10 rebounds, along with four assists.
Off the bench, Haven Vasold added seven points and five rebounds, while Amari'A Campbell provided four points and four rebounds in limited minutes.
Team Effort
Delta College shot 30.9% from the field and 35.7% from three-point range. Despite making 10 three-pointers, struggles at the free-throw line (6-for-13) and turnovers (21 total) proved costly.
Muskegon's Strong Finish
Muskegon was led by Anna Lundquist, who scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. TyVeonna Davis added 19 points and an impressive 21 rebounds, dominating in the paint. Muskegon outrebounded Delta 61-38 and forced 21 turnovers, helping them secure the win down the stretch.
Coach's Comments
"Progress not perfection and although you play the game to go for wins, but you also play the game and practice the game to see improvement and I believe that we have improved since our first time of seeing Muskegon," said Delta's head coach. "I couldn't be more proud of the way we traveled and played for 40 minutes and I can say that moving forward you won't always see perfection but you will definitely see progress at a Delta women's basketball."

With the loss, Delta College falls to 6-12 on the season and 3-5 in conference play. The team will look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue their fight in the standings.
