Delta College Falls to Bay College 81-60 Despite Strong Effort
ESCANABA, Mich. – Delta College faced a tough road challenge against Bay College on Saturday afternoon, ultimately falling 81-60. Despite keeping the game competitive through three quarters, the Pioneers were unable to slow down Bay's offensive attack, particularly in the second half.
Bay College got off to a quick start, leading 21-14 after the first quarter. Delta managed to keep pace in the second, matching Bay with 20 points each to go into halftime down just 41-34. However, the home team pulled away with a decisive 24-12 third quarter, sealing the Pioneers' fate.
Jefferson Stands Out in Defeat Hailee Jefferson led Delta College with a strong performance, tallying 17 points and eight rebounds while shooting an efficient 8-of-9 from the field. Ja'Leeah Griggs contributed 10 points and nine rebounds, while Kayla Howell added 11 points, including three three-pointers.
Axtell Leads Bay College's Charge Bay College's offense was fueled by Anna Axtell, who had a game-high 30 points along with 11 rebounds. She was a force inside and at the free-throw line, converting all seven of her attempts. Lauren Zawada added 16 points, while Makenna Hendrickson chipped in nine.
Defensively, Bay College's pressure forced 35 turnovers from Delta, a key factor in the game's outcome. Bay also outrebounded the Pioneers 49-42, leading to multiple second-chance opportunities.
Turning Point: Bay's Third-Quarter Surge After an evenly matched first half, Bay College took control in the third quarter, outscoring Delta 24-12. The Pioneers struggled to find offensive rhythm, shooting 37.1% from the field and just 50% from the free-throw line.
