Delta Ends Season as NJCAA Division III Runner Up
Delta College started its quest to win a National Championship in soccer by defeating Howard Community College 2-0 and followed it up with a win against Union County College 2-0 before losing in the championship game to the number 1 seeded Richland College 1-0. The Pioneers played well throughout the tournament as they finished their year with a 16-2 record. Their only losses came in their first and last games of the year. In their game vs Howard, Hope Emington found the back of the net eight and a half minutes into the game. Kaylee Meissner assisted on the goal. Early in the second half, Skylar Eckert received a pass from Casey Allessie and made no mistake in converting it in to a goal to give the Pioneers their final margin of victory 2-0.
In a semi-final match, Delta defeated Union County on goals from Halie Kish (assisted by Skylar Eckert) at 32:47 of the first half and Hunter Kukla (unassisted) at 82:31 mark in the second half. The two shutout wins set a school record of eight shutouts in a season posted by Pioneer goalie Kalyn Breckenridge and set up the finals between Richland (number 1 seed) and Delta (number 2 seed). In a game that saw plenty of action at both ends of the field, Alexis Lawerence and Miranda Ibarra teamed up with Eva Mulligan to beat Kalyn Breckenridge at the 27:14 mark of the first half for the games only goal. Kyla Breckenridge, Kalyn Breckenridge, and Hope Emmington were named to the All-Tournament Team.
