PIONEERS PICK UP CONFERENCE WIN ON THE ROAD

Game Outcome:
Delta College traveled to another conference rival, Jackson CC, for a critical match up that would have conference standings ramifications. Both teams were intense from the start of the game. Delta scored their first goal in the first 3 minutes of the game when Rhianna Schermerhorn received a through ball from Kiah Nichols and drove a low hard shot past the keeper. Jackson CC would answer quickly with a goal to bring the game to a 1-1 tie. Rhianna Schermerhorn added two more goals in the first half to give Delta a 3-1 lead heading into halftime. Both teams would score in second half, to make the final score at 4-2. This win brings Delta's record to 7-0-0 in the conference and 8-0-0 overall, which keeps them in first place in the MCCAA.
Standout Players of the Game:
The three goals by Rhianna in the first half, gave the Pioneers the lead needed to secure a very important victory. Mikalah Lewis scored Delta's final goal off a throw-in and combination play from Peyton Pratt and Rhianna Schermerhorn.

Three critical first half goals, and solid defensive play was the key to a very important conference victory. This win allowed the Pioneers to maintain a 1 game lead in the MCCAA standings.

Coach's Comments:
Coach Damon Amey was pleased with this important win. With this victory today, the Pioneers head into the second half of the conference play with a 3-point lead over the rest of the field. This was a hard-fought game that concluded a challenging weekend. We are pleased to pick up two critical wins.
Adjustments for the next Game:
Delta will continue to work on offensive creativity, accurate passing, and the ability to play a controlled combination game in the final attacking third of the field. The Pioneers will be hosting Lake Michigan on Tuesday the 12th. The Pioneers currently have a #3 National ranking.
