    Bio

Mark West is a Bible-believing Christian with a passion for service, seeking to continue learning, growing, and improving as a person and professional.  He is a board-certified and state-licensed athletic trainer, who has worked in the health and wellness industry for many years.  As an athletic trainer, Mark has experience working in the clinical, commercial, high school, and collegiate settings. He has a Master of Science in Athletic Training and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, Wellness Management. After completing his university studies, Mark received additional training, education, and experience working with people from all walks of life, such as athletic rehabilitation, manual therapeutics, functional movement, performance enhancement, weight loss, and sports conditioning.

He holds multiple certifications and specialties, such as, personal trainer (CPT), corrective exercise specialist (CES), performance enhancement specialist (PES), group fitness instructor (AFAA-CGFI), weight loss specialist (WLS), behavior change specialist (BCS), and is also certified in Applied Functional Science (CAFS). In addition, Mark is currently a doctoral student in the Doctor of Athletic Training Program at Indiana State University, while also working on his fellowship of applied functional science at the Gray Institute.

Throughout his life, God has blessed him with various opportunities to grow as a person and as a professional. Before Delta, he served as the Rehabilitation/Conditioning Specialist at H.O.P.E. Chiropractic & Wellness, PLLC. Prior to this, he worked with a non-profit organization to develop mission projects to care for homeless, malnourished, and abused children nationally and internationally. His desire to work with suffering children stemmed from his time in the United States Army, where he learned of the great hardships and the oppression children face daily. During his time in the military, he received training as a Special Operations Army Airborne Ranger, where he was privileged to develop complementary skills in leadership, emergency response, and combat medicine. He has also worked as an assistant athletic trainer at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU), San Diego, California and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he was privileged to work with a variety of sports teams and athletes.

    Mark’s professional mission is,

    • Toactively demonstrate the value of care he provides through proficiency in skills, embodiment or exemplification of the principles of health, and being benevolent with each student-athlete.
    • Toconstantly strive to challenge the limits of his profession, setting the standards in practice, and raising the expectation for patient/athlete outcomes physically, mentally, and spiritually.
    • To consistently be an advanced clinical-practice leader which accurately identifies problems and purposefully links them to evidenced-based solutions.

As the Delta College athletic trainer/strength and conditioning coach, Mark works hard to provide the student-athletes with a comprehensive and well-rounded strength and conditioning program (known as S.P.E.A.R.) centered on the principles of health and wellness.

The pursuit of Mark’s life could be summed up in three words: Aspiration. Perspiration. Inspiration.  When asked about what drives him, he would say,

"Christ is my driver. He is my Lord and Savior. In the life of Christ, I see the most beautiful character. He was the epitome of self-sacrificing love. I aspire to be like Christ, so I perspire to be like Him, that I may inspire others to desire the same.”
