Delta Falls to Muskegon in High-Scoring Thriller
In a tightly contested matchup at Pioneer Gym on January 15, 2025, Delta College battled until the final seconds but ultimately fell to Muskegon Community College, 96-92.
Delta (5-10, 0-2) started strong, leading 49-46 at halftime behind a balanced attack led by standout performances from their starters. Brendon Schlink delivered an impressive double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 6-for-9 from beyond the arc. Jaylen Carthan added 18 points and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line, while Evan Booker contributed 13 points and seven rebounds.
Despite Delta's early lead, Muskegon (9-7, 2-0) surged in the second half, outscoring Delta 50-43. Kevon Washington was the driving force for Muskegon, recording 31 points, including six three-pointers, and dishing out three assists. Ny'Zhem Marshall dominated the boards with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Will Chye added 15 points, sinking key free throws to maintain Muskegon's edge.
Delta fought hard in the closing minutes, with Ja'Vion Blackwell scoring nine points off the bench and Derrick Campbell providing a spark with clutch free throws. However, Muskegon's efficient 51.6% shooting from the field and a 14-of-30 performance from three-point range proved too much to overcome.
Delta will look to bounce back in their next game as they continue conference play.
