Pioneers swept by Cougars on season
Kalamazoo, MI – The Delta College women's basketball team traveled to Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Saturday to take on the Cougars in a tough cross-conference game, losing to the host team by the score of 91-38. The loss drops the Pioneers to 3-4 on the season while Kalamazoo improves to 5-1.
Delta and KVCC matched up earlier in the year to open the 2016 season in a game that saw the Cougars take a 91-68 victory on the Pioneers home court.
The first quarter looked promising for DC as they forced multiple turnovers but could not capitalize on the offensive end. Kalamazoo, meanwhile, continued to take advantage of the cold shooting by Delta and jumped out to a first quarter lead.
From there the game got away from the visitors as they suffered their worst defeat since 2005 when they dropped a 43 point decision to Mott Community College.
"We need to find out how to win on the road and we need to find out fast," said head coach Kelly Miller. "Just when it looks like we're taking steps forward we get to the next game and take steps back."
Lauren Rogers led the Pioneers with 15 points while Brooke Schutte added 11 in the loss.
"It's only so much you can do as a coach, so I guess we have to keep rotating players to see who's going to do what we ask of them," added Miller.
Wednesday at home the Lady Pioneers have a chance to redeem a loss from earlier in the season when they host the Bruins from Kellogg. KCC knocked off Delta on November 22nd by the score of 70-65. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
