Delta Stays Perfect in MCCAA Eastern Conference
First place battle looms for Pioneers on Saturday
Flint, MI – The Delta College Lady Pioneer basketball team travelled to Mott Community College on Wednesday to take on the Bears and try to remain perfect in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. After last week's up and down battle against a undermanned Oakland team, Delta was determined to not let Mott's 1-11 record play a role in the effort and it was that mindset that saw DC dominate the game with a 90-54 win to put them at 4-0 in conference play and 9-8 overall on the year.
"We talked about the way we've started games all year home and away," said head coach Kelly Miller. "We've seem to have had more intensity in the second half of games, so we made some changes to our pregame warm up and tonight it helped."
"Jenna has been strong for us offensively and with Mott playing zone the game opened up for her and she capitalized," said Miller.
Mott was outscored by four in the third quarter to go down 62-42 before Delta's constant pressure forced them into multiple turnovers that ultimately led to the 36 point blowout.
"Tonight we controlled the game from beginning to end. Now we need to carry that over into practice and our next game."
Szostak added nine rebounds to go with her game high 31 points while Lauren Rogers had 17 points and seven boards while going a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. Harmany Williams added 16 points, four assists and three steals for DC while shooting 5-of-6 from the free throw line. In total, Delta shot a respectiable 19 of 31 from the line while hitting on 51.7 percent of their shots from the floor.
