Delta College Overpowers North Central Michigan with Fourth-Quarter Surge

Delta College pulled away in the fourth quarter to secure a 73-62 victory over North Central Michigan in a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers used a dominant 24-point final frame to put the game out of reach, improving their record to 8-15 overall and 5-6 in conference play.
North Central Michigan (4-21, 3-8) started strong, taking a 19-17 lead after the first quarter. Maziah Shelton led the charge, scoring a game-high 25 points while adding nine rebounds and three steals. The Timberwolves maintained a slim advantage at halftime, leading 34-33, thanks to efficient shooting and strong rebounding.
Delta College responded in the second half with increased defensive intensity and improved shooting. Ja'Leeah Griggs led the Pioneers with 15 points and 10 rebounds, registering a double-double. Amari'A Campbell provided a major spark off the bench, tallying 14 points and 11 rebounds to help swing the momentum.
With the game still tight entering the fourth quarter, Delta turned up the pressure, outscoring North Central Michigan 24-15 in the final period. Clutch free-throw shooting (18-22, 81.8%) and a strong presence in the paint, where they grabbed 49 rebounds to North Central's 40, proved to be key factors in the victory.
Kayla Howell added 12 points for the Pioneers, while Carah McCrum chipped in nine, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. The Pioneers' defense was also a difference-maker, forcing 16 turnovers and recording 12 steals.
Delta College will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as they continue to fight for positioning in conference play.
