Delta Sweeps Newcomer Schoolcraft College
Early starts lead to success for Pioneers
Livonia, MI – Quick starts in both games of a double-header helped the Delta Pioneers baseball team sweep Schoolcraft College on Thursday, winning game one 8-2 before completing the sweep with a 13-3, six inning mercy in game two. The wins improve Delta's overall record to 26-19 on the year while their MCCAA record now stands at 13-9.
In game one, Jordan Jachens singled home Brady Marwede before a Tyler Robbins double plated both Jachens and Dean Marais for a 3-0 lead. Robbins would later score on a Drew Harding squeeze to make it 4-0.
Delta upped the lead to 7-0 in the fifth courtesy of another Jachens RBI single followed by a 2-RBI triple by Robbins. Schoolcraft would plate a run in the bottom of the frame but another run by Delta and an unearned run by the Ocelots completed the scoring.
Austin Dingee picked up the win on the mound for Delta, throwing a complete game three-hitter to up his record to 5-1 on the season. Offensively, Brady Marwede and Jordan Jachens each had two hits while Dean Marias went three-for-four at the plate and Robbins had a single, double, triple and four RBI's.
Game two saw Delta again take an early lead as four hits, coupled with two walks and an error lead to a 5-0 first inning lead. Schoolcraft would answer with two runs in the bottom of the first and a single run in the third before Delta put up two more in the fifth to make it a 7-3 game.
In the sixth inning, Zack Booth led off with a double before scoring on a Justin Jurek single to get the offense rolling once again. From there, the Pioneers scored five more runs, highlighted by a Watson Moore, 2-RBI single to go up 13-3 and induce the mercy.
Colin Meacham got the win on the mound for Delta, throwing five innings and giving up just three hits and two earned runs. His record for the season now stands at 4-0. Offensively, Jordan Jachens went four-for-four while Jurek, Marais, Robbins, Harding and Booth all had multi-hit games as well.
Delta will host second place Kellogg Community College on Saturday in a MCCAA clash with huge implications on the post-season chances for the Pioneers. Game time is 1pm.
