Pioneers fall to Erie
Pioneers opened up their Lynn Conway Classic with a tough loss to Erie Community College (New York) by the score of 75-84.
Pioneers opened up their Lynn Conway Classic with a tough loss to Erie Community College (New York) by the score of 75-84. The Pioneer started the game off with early defensive stops that lead to transition baskets where they took the lead. Pioneers focused on getting defensive rebounds and limiting Erie to one shot a possession. In the first half the Pioneers accomplished their goals by being up by as many as 11 points but only went into the half up by 3, with a score of 38-35.
Erie Community College bolsted a big linup of 6'8 and 6'7 Post players that turned up their production in the scond half. The goals that Pioneers accomplished in the first half where not achieved in the second half of the game as Erie got in the game after being down by as many as 9 points at one point.
Coach McMath stated that "with their size and straight it was pivotal that we compete on the boards and keep them from getting second chance shots." In the second half Erie took control late in the game with a couple crucial rebounds from the free-throw line which led to two second chance three pointers.
Pioneers were paced by Dan Stenback (Cedarville High School/Cedarville, MI) with his 15 points, 8rebs and 2 blocks. Juilan Henderson (Saginaw High School/Saginaw, MI) played bigger than his size and recored 12 rebs, 5 asst., and 8 points. Donte Jackson (Livonia Churchill High School/Detroit, MI), which a huge spark in the first half finished, with 13 points but to lead all scorers on the night was Markell Bradshaw (Saginaw High/Saginaw, MI) with 18 points.
