Livonia, MI------- The Pioneers took on the #1 team Schoolcraft in the nation and fell short by a score of 61-74 in the recent match up.
The Pioneers took the floor 48 hours after playing a great game against a very tough Mott team that pushed them to the limit. The quick turnaround was nothing that the Pioneers were not prepared for as they had the same type of schedule in the first half of the conference season.
The Pioneers came out of the game very sluggish and seemed to be two steps slower than Schoolcraft. Schoolcraft on the other hand, after having a couple days off, started the game off crisp and aggressive on both ends of the court. "The first five minutes of the game on our part was just bad basketball," coach McMath.
The Pioneers than turned it around with some strong play from Davian Phillips and his ability to knock down the open shot. Once the Pioneers settled into the game the Pioneers finished the 1st half strong heading into the half with a 32-30 lead.
In the second half both teams came out focused to take away each other's strong points and both succeeded early on in the half. Around 13 minutes left in the Schoolcraft pushed to another level, while it seemed Delta ran into a wall. Pioneers shots were not falling with the contribution of hard defense by Schoolcraft and bad decision making by the Pioneers.
The Pioneers had three players in double digits; Markell Bradshaw, Julian Henderson, and Davian Phillips.
The Pioneers will now focus on the Playoffs as they are slated as the #3 Seed in MCCAA District 10 tournament. The Pioneers #3 will host #6 Mott for the third time this season at Pioneer gym on Tuesday March 3rd at 7:30pm.
