Softball Sweeps Henry Ford, 2-0 in Conference Play
The Lady Pioneers made a good start in conference play sweeping Henry Ford CC 6-4 and 8-2.
During the first game the Lady Pioneers had some rust to knock off, not getting a run across the plate until the top of the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth, trailing 1-4 the bats finally came alive scoring five runs to make it a 6-4 game. Baylee Rohn got the Lady Pioneers rolling with a single, then an error by the pitcher allowed Lorraina Kelly to get on and Rohn to advance into scoring position. Alyssa Jones soon followed suit getting a single of her own to load the bases. Peyton Hubel came up and smacked a single, allowing Rohn to score. Kaylie Scott hits a double right up the middle to allow Kelly, Jones and Hubel to score. A sac fly by Kelsie Dilts scored Scott. Kristie Gray picked up the win going seven innings and allowing 4 hits.
The Lady Pioneers came out much stronger in the night cap, jumping on the Hawks of Henry Ford early, scoring 4 in the first, 2 in the second, then 2 in the seventh, making it an 8-2 game. Jones started off the game with a single and Halle Reed followed the pattern; with runners on 2ndand 3rd, Scott draws an error from the third baseman allowing Jones to score. Then a wild throw from the third baseman allowed Reed and Scott to score and Dilts to make her way to third. Gray hit to the right side allowing Dilts to score. In the second Rohn gets walked and is moved to third on a double by Kelly. Reed hits it deep to right allowing Rohn to score; Kelly scored on a blooper by Scott. The Pioneers went unanswered until the bottom of the fourth when a couple good hits to the corners by the Lady Hawks with bases loaded allowed two to come in. It was a scoreless game until the top of the seventh when Scott, Dilts and Gray loaded the bases with singles respectively. Singles by Jacinda Rezler and Rohn allowed two to come in. Maddie Gentry picked up the win in seven innings, allowing 5 hits.
The Lady Pioneers have a home weekend against Alpena on Friday (4&6) and against Henry Ford on Saturday (1&3).
