Lynn Conway Classic Coming to DC
Iconic Pioneer Athletic Director Remembered
University Center, MI - The 2015 version of the Lynn Conway Classic basketball tournament will be played this Friday and Saturday on the campus of Delta College. Both the men's and women's teams will compete in the eight team event featuring both local college teams as well as teams from across the state and beyond.
When Delta College was being built from the ground up, Lynn Conway was the rock and the foundation of it all. A former Bay City Central and Michigan State football player, Conway became Delta's first men's basketball coach in 1961 – then became the tennis coach, golf coach, athletic director and face of the entire athletic program as the original Pioneer who put in 40 years of service to Delta College. He was passionate about the responsibility he had to make Delta Athletics better and as such served as the athletic director from 1965-1999.
"Lynn Conway was a man who stood for integrity to the sport, to the athletic program as well as Delta College," said current Athletics Director Shelly Raube. "He showed great leadership, skill, teamwork, sportsmanship and citizenship. He had a kind-hearted largesse that just can't be forgotten. This classic is in honor of him."
