2016-17 Soccer Recruits Ink with Delta College
University Center, MI - Saturday was a day filled with excitement and anticipation as the women's soccer team signed nine athletes to a National Letter of Intent to participate on the 2016 roster.
"It's great to hold a signing day on campus," said Delta athletic director Shelly Raube. "Not only did it provide us an opportunity to sit down with each student and their family, but we were also able to take care of Pass Advising as well as COMPASS testing all in one fell swoop."
The day concluded with the recruits watching the Delta women's basketball team take on Macomb Community College.
"This is a very talented recruiting class, and many are outstanding students," said women's head coach Paul Stenglein. "This combination is a very good indication that we can be successful both on the field and in the classroom."
"I was very pleased that our current team was at the event to welcome the new recruits and exchange contact information. I am anticipating that this is going to be a close group that may have the chance to experience some very special team accomplishments."
The nine players that signed on Saturday are:
Taylor Farrand - Sway Valley
Brianna Redmond – Saginaw Heritage
Hannah Rousse - Bay City Western
Chelsea Temple - Swan Valley
Delaney Gravlin - Cheboygan
Maddie Jewell - Grand Blanc
Maddie Tweddle – Saginaw Heritage
Paige Renshaw – Montrose
Nicoe Hill - Elk Rapids
"I was excited to get all nine of our recruits to attend our Recruit Signing Day," continued Stenglein. "We received a lot of compliments from the parents and recruits regarding their visit as well as their overall experience with Delta College."
"I am very excited to bring this new team into our Delta Pioneer culture; and help lead them to be everything, and more, of what they believe they can be."
The Pioneers will begin practicing in August as they begin their initial foray as an NJCAA Division III school with the start of the 2016 season. Delta has competed their first five seasons as an NJCAA Division I participant.
