University Center, MI – The Delta College women's soccer team suffered its first setback of the young season on Wednesday, dropping a 4-0 decision to #11 Schoolcraft Community College. The loss drops the Pioneer record to 2-1 overall and in the MCCAA.
Delta had multiple scoring opportunities in the first half but couldn't find the net as Schoolcraft took a 1-0 lead in to the half. Excellent team possessions and strong passing by the Ocelot's kept the Delta offense at bay, however, as Schoolcraft added three second half goals to put the game out of reach.
"I believe the high pressure by Schoolcraft in the second half caused us to panic and make ill-advised passes that allowed Schoolcraft to possess the ball for extended periods of time," said Coach Paul Stenglein. "Most of their goals today came from not containing their players in the final third of the field."
Schoolcraft outshot the Pioneers 17-1 in the second half and 30-6 overall on the game. DC keeper Ali Bourcier had 12 saves against shots on goal.
Delta next travels to Jackson on Friday where they play the Jets in a 4pm contest.
