PIONEERS CRUISE PAST MU ANCILLA
Game Outcome:
Delta College traveled to Ancilla College for a conference match up. This was the start for Delta's regular season schedule. The Pioneers were determined to come out strong and try to build an early lead. The Pioneers did just that, when they scored three goals in the first 5 minutes of play. Freshman Peyton Pratt scored all three of these early goals. It's amazing that a freshman playing in her first regular season collegiate game has a hat trick within the first 5 minutes of play. The Pioneers would go onto score 4 additional goals to give them a 7-0 victory. This win brings Delta's record to 1-0-0 in the conference and 1-0-0 overall.
Standout Players of the Game:
Peyton Pratt with her hat trick in 2 minutes and 9 seconds qualifies her performance worthy of being an offensive player of the game. Freshman Mikalah Lewis added two goals in the second half of play. Two of our Sophomores, Alexis Martinez and Elizabeth Swope, led the defensive group to their first shutout of the season. Martinez also helped in the attack with two assists. All 7 of the goals were scored by first year freshman players.
Highlights from the game:
Delta took a commanding 4-0 lead into halftime, and never looked back. Having 5 different scorers showed the depth of the Pioneer offense. This was an important conference road win. Delta has earned their first well played Shutout.

Coach's Comments:
Coach Damon Amey was pleased with the intensity and effort of the team today. We made sure that we take one game at a time, and never look past anyone of our opponents. This was a great way to start out season, and I'm excited to see continued growth as the season progresses.
Adjustments for the next Game:
Delta will continue to work on offensive creativity, accurate passing, and the ability to play a controlled combination game in the final attacking third of the field. We will continue to focus on finishing versus shooting and looking for our best attacking options. Working on team defending will be critical throughout the season. We will stay the course in our training sessions, and continue to focus on individual ball skills as well as tactical team ball movement. The Pioneers will be hosting Muskegon on Wednesday the 23rd and then travel to Muskegon on Saturday the 26th. The Pioneers currently have a #4 National ranking.
