Pioneer Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Eli Parrent as the new Head Men's Golf Coach. We are excited about this hire and looking forward to the creation of a new culture built to build a thriving men's golf program. We had the opportunity to speak with Coach Parrent to ask him questions related to this season and beyond.
What type of program are you looking to build?
I am looking to build a program that will develop student-athletes into not only better golfers, but better humans and students. Athletes can expect to develop their golf skills in all three phases of the game: physical, mental, and fundamental. We will be using our indoor simulator and putting green to sharpen our athletes' golf skills all year long, so they are ready for competition in the spring and fall. Through skill development, strength and conditioning, and situational practice, I have no doubt that Delta College Golf will be back competing at the highest level.
What are key factors that you are looking for in future recruits to continue to build this program?
I am looking for athletes who are willing to listen, work hard, be open-minded, and who are dedicated to being great student athletes. Being coachable and having great interpersonal skills are also key factors of student athletes I want involved in the Delta golf program.
Who are your mentors and what advice have they have given you as he prepares for this inaugural return and build for the future?
My biggest mentor was Blaise Zimmer. His advice has always been "failure to prepare is preparing to fail". He always has me make sure that the athletes are prepared for matches through quality practice and hard work.
Welcome to the Pioneer Family Coach Parrent!
