Muskegon, MI – The Delta Pioneers baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Muskegon Community College on Saturday, losing game one 8-7 before falling in the nightcap by the score of 7-1. The losses drop DC to 6-8 in conference play and 15-16 overall on the season.
Ty Robbins got things going for Delta in game one with a two run blast to leftfield that plated Dean Marias who had singled. It was Robbins second homerun of the season, but the lead was short lived as Muskegon responded with a two-run homerun of their own to tie the game at 2-2. The Jayhawks then tacked on an additional run to take a 3-2 lead after the first inning before going up 4-2 after two innings off of Delta starting pitcher Matt Sahr.
The score would remain there until the fifth inning when the hosts put up four unearned runs courtesy of four Delta errors and two hits.
With the score 8-2 to start the sixth inning, Delta finally got their offense going as Jordan Jachens, Drew Harding and Zack Booth all singled in front of a Watson Moore double that brought the score to 8-6. A walk and an error would make it 8-7 before the inning was over.
Delta would threaten in the seventh as runners reached first and second with two outs before a strike out would end the game.
Sahr was tagged with the loss dropping his record to 2-3 on the season. Watson Moore led the offense by going three-for-four with two RBI. Drew Harding, Zack Booth and Dean Marais each had two hits as well.
Muskegon took an early lead in game two before a Zack Booth RBI single scored Jordan Jachens to tie the game at 1-1. Single Jayhawk runs in the second and third innings made it 3-1 before they would score two in the fifth and one in the sixth to win going away.
Jake Gross took the loss on the hill dropping his record to 1-3 on the season. He allowed four earned runs on five hits while striking out three in 4 2/3 innings of work. Delta was limited to just two hits in the game on offense.
The Pioneers host the Michigan Area Braves on Sunday in a double-header at Wickes Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
