Even record on season at 4-4
Auburndale, FL – The Pioneer baseball team played Lake County on Wednesday, dropping both ends of the double-header by the scores of 1-0 and 13-4. The losses put DC at 4-4 on the year.
Drew Schultz toed the rubber and threw an absolute gem for Delta in game one but a solo homerun with two outs in the fourth inning ended up being the game winner. In the second game, Lake County scored two unearned runs to take an early 2-1 lead before Delta responded in the fifth inning to go up 4-2. A leadoff walk and a Jarred Cooper bunt single put runners on first and second before Aaron Esparza reached on an error to load the bases. Matt Fisher was then plunked to make it a 2-2 game before Zach Schirmer lifted a fly ball to right field to score Cooper. Devin Sempert then had a two-RBI single give DC the two-run lead.
Lake County tied the game in the bottom of the inning on two more unearned runs before putting the game out of reach with nine unanswered in the bottom half of the sixth. David Binder (0-1) took the loss in relief for DC.
