Delta Extends Its Winning streak to 3 in a Row with Wins over KVCC and GRCC
Delta College Pioneers extended its winning streak to three with wins over KVCC (Kalamazoo Valley Community College) and GRCC (Grand Rapids Community College) this past weekend in the KVCC Kickoff Tournament. The Pioneers defeated the host school, KVCC 86-59 in a game that was close throughout the first. However, a 46-27 second half scoring advantage, catapultated the Pioneers to the easy victory. Delta was led by Goliath Mitchell and Jackarus Smith with 25 and 21 points respectively. Chaz Woods chipped in another 10 for the winners. Trenton Lomason led KVCC with 14 points.
In the second game played on Saturday, Delta escaped with an 80-79 victory over GRCC. After being down by more than 16 points midway through the 2nd half, the Pioneers clawed their way back into the game making Goliath Mitchell's last second heroics possible. With just .4 second left on the game clock Goliath knocked home the game winning basket to edge out GRCC. Goliath led all scorers with 27 points followed by Jakarus Smith's 23. Delta's Peyton Miller contributed a double/double by scoring 14 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Delta is now 3-0 on the season and play Wednesday, 14 November against the Olivet JV before going on the road to play Mid Michigan Community College on Saturday, November 17th.
