Warren, MI – The Delta College women's softball team opened up the MCCAA Eastern Conference portion of their season by traveling to Macomb Community College to take on the Monarchs. Unfortunately for the Pioneers, they would drop both ends of the double-header to start conference play at 0-2 while lowering their season record to 3-7.
Game one saw Delta lose 5-1 as starting pitcher Jensen Tchorzynski scattered just four hits in the contest but didn't get much help defensively. Her record now drops to 2-2 on the young season. Delta got down 5-0 before scoring their lone run in the sixth inning.
Errors cost the Pioneers again in nightcap as they surrendered five runs in the first inning to the Monarchs before tightening the score at 6-3 after three innings. But Delta couldn't make the most of their opportunities on offense and ended up losing, 7-4. Katlyn Blake suffered the loss on the hill to drop her record to 0-2 on the year.
Offensively, Delta was led by Shelby Bailey with two hits in four at-bats while Blake, Bailey and Alyssa Westphal each added an RBI.
"Errors killed us again," said head coach Randy Mullard. "And, we had plenty of opportunities that we didn't take advantage of".
Delta next plays on Thursday as they host the Bears of Mott. Game time is scheduled for 3:00pm.
