Softball Sweeps Schoolcraft in Tuesday's Matchup
On Tuesday, April 23, 2019 the Lady Pioneers traveled to Schoolcraft for a DIII and conference matchup. Coming off of a 2-4 week, then another week of rain delays, the Lady Pioneers we all know and love came back to action, taking the pair from the Oclets 9-4 and 10-4.
In game one the Pioneer offense started early, with a 3 run first inning Halle Reed got a single early, then got to third on an error by the left fielder, Kelsie Dilts gets the first two RBIs of the game on another outfield error and found herself on third. A single by Kristie Gray scored Dilts easily.
In the third inning Gray scored on a triple by Peyton Hubel who would be left stranded.
Lorraina Kelly started the fourth inning out strong with a double. Reed and Kaylie Scott get walked and Kelly scores when Dilts is hit by a pitch; Reed scored on a missed fly ball by Gray.
The Lady Pioneers had one last run in the seventh when Jacinda Rezler started things off hot with a triple, Hubel gets walked and steals her way to second. A line drive up the middle by Gillian Schloop scores them both. A long fly ball by Kelly would bring her in.
The Pioneer defense was strong, and Kristie Gray pitched the complete game, picking up the win allowing 8 hits and recording 3 strike outs.
2B: Kelly (2)
3B: Dilts, Rezler, Hubel
HR: Schloop
In the night cap the offense showed up in similar fashion. Alyssa Jones starts off with a single who is moved to third on another single by Reed. Hubel gets on when the third baseman checks Jones at third a little too long. A deep fly ball by Dilts scores Jones, and RBI single by Gray brings in Reed, and Hubel is brought in by an RBI single from Maddie Gentry.
The Lady Pioneers did not score again until the fifth inning when Hubel started them off with a triple; Gray scores her on a misread fly ball, which lands Gray on two; a pass ball moves her to third and Rezler comes up strong and hits an RBI single. Back-to-back singles by Gentry and Schloop move Rezler around, and Schloop picks up the RBI.
Another hot inning for the offense is coming up as we roll into the sixth inning. Reed hits a lead off double and scores on a single by Hubel. A single by Gray scores a speedy Hubel. Gentry then comes in and scores Gray.
In the top of the seventh Kelly steps up with a single, is moved around to third on a single by Jones, and finds herself scoring on another single by Reed.
The defense continued to play strong through the second game and Maddie Gentry picked up the complete win for game two allowing 9 hits and 4 strike outs.
